Tips For a Good Day

I am a firm believer that my everyday can be a good day.
There was a time when I thought that this was not being realistic. In fact, a good friend told me I was being ‘romantic’ and a ‘dreamer.
‘Everything is figureoutable’ as Marie Forleo would say!!
Here is what I figured and it made my day so much more enjoyable!
For example, if the goal for the day was to complete a section of a project for work that day but your day was interrupted either by unexpected life situations, or you overslept or a string of other minor distractions resulted in not getting it done, all of a sudden you fall into the trap of disappointment, frustration and discouragement.
These feelings become an invitation to the voice of perfectionism that when given a chance, highlights all the shortcomings, the weaknesses and the failures causing you to feel completely useless. Thus, putting the brakes on your day and making it hard to move forward. By evening, you are feeling exhausted and agitated with no energy left to pour into family and other important relationships.
Here are a couple of tips that helped me set myself up for a good day:
#1 Be proactive in the areas that are in your control
First make sure that the task is a priority of the day. Second, think about a situation that might trip you up today and how your best self will deal with it.
For instance, you have carved out 1 hour for this task and you know that phone calls, will definitely be something that will distract you. How will your best self be proactive? My best self will put it on silencer and place the phone in another room (with no guilt) till I am done.
#2 Be flexible
If you did not complete the task then be willing to change it and move it further along rather than opening the door for perfectionism to scold you and tell you how useless you are.
Evaluate – take a moment – 10 minutes and find out :
- WHY you did not meet the goal of the day?
- WHAT could have worked better?
- WHAT do you need to help you accomplish that task?
- WHAT have you learnt about you or the situation?
#3 Be kind and respectful to yourself
Would you want to be insulted and ridiculed at customer service if you could not quite comprehend the instructions of how a device worked? Nope! In fact, you would sue them for disrespecting you!! So, why insult and unforgivably criticize your beautiful, smart self!
Hope these small tips make a difference to your day and make it GOOD!
You deserve a good day!
